Drifting around

The snow fell mostly on the first night. A few more showers the following day topped it up. Unfortunately the only time the tops were ever free of clag we were wading down the Lairig Gruh in waist deep snow. So when we did get up high things tended to be one colour. White.

Excellent pictures there, quite an adventure. The third photo is a gem actually, I’ve never managed to capture that whiteout situation effectively despite being in one a couple of times.
We did wonder a couple of years ago when contemplating a Cairngorm trip in late winter how much snow there would be in the Lairig Ghru: so… rather a lot then!.

  2. Thanks a lot Geoff. Prior to last week I’d never been in a true whiteout. I’ve now been in half a dozen…

It was a heck of a lot. We were crawling along at about 2/3rds a mile an hour all day. The dispririting thing was when we’d find the path for 50 yards and then end up back in the drifts for another few hundred meters.

  3. Good day! I know this is kind off off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could find a captcha plugin for
my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one?
    Thanks a lot!
